Week3:Personal problems of Consumerism
Let's consider what the personal problems of consumerism are !
<Case 1:Ehomaki >
In Japan, we had an 'Ehomaki rolls problem'. I think that this problem was caused by 3 steps. Firstly, we have a premise that a lot of people eat ehomaki rolls in Setsubun. (This is consumerism.) Secondly, a lot of ehomaki rolls are put in the store. (This is mass production.) Lastly, a lot of ehomaki rolls remain be in the store without being bought by someone. (This is mass disposal.)
<Case 2 :clothes >
Today, we buy a lot of clothes. In the world, mass production and mass consumption (consumerism) of trendy clothes occurs. In fact, over 100 billion pieces of clothes were produced in 2014, this means that the amount of produced clothes approximately doubled from the one in 2000. Also, according to Ministry of Environment, the number of clothes one Japanese person buys in a year is 18, and the one one Japanese person doesn't wear in a year is 25 in average. Do you know where the clothes go ? About 60 percent of all clothes that can't be wore are disposed as the garbage. However, other 240,000 tons of old clothes were exported from Japan. The same thing occurs in other developed countries, too. Those clothes also cause the health problem and pollution of the land. In this way, though we buy a lot of clothes, producing too much, buying too much, and disposing of too much may make someone suffered from the health problem by three themes (Mass production, Mass using, and Mass buying) .<Case 3 :my experience >
When I went watching the baseball game with my family, we bought a lot of food. We thought that we should buy more than the amount we need in case we need more food than the amount we expected. However, we couldn't eat up the food. This is also the problem caused by Mass production, Mass consumption, and Mass disposal.1 Mass production...a lot of lunch boxes are sold before the events.
2 Mass consumption...we buy a lot of food for the event.
3 Mass disposal...the food we couldn't consume is thrown away.
In this way, we have the experiences that have the deep relationship with consumerism.
Question:
Do you have the experiences that have the relationship with consumerism ? If you have, tell me the content.
